Courses Taught

Martínez has been teaching courses in Basic Design, Culture and Design, Symbols in Imagery, Visual Representation of Language, Photographic Design and Film Animation, in the Graphic Design Program at the Faculty of Science and Arts for Design since 1987 at the Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana, Azcapotzalco campus in Mexico City.

Martínez has led various workshops, such as “Arte Objeto, una revisión desde el Pop hasta lo contemporáneo” (Object Art, a review from pop to contemporary art) at the Museo Rufino Tamayo in 1998.

Installation workshop course “Tres dimensiones abiertas” (Three open dimensions) at the Universidad Iberoamericana, Puebla campus, in 1999.

Installation workshop course “Instalación e incertidumbre” (Installation and uncertainty), at the Instituto de Cultura de Puebla and the Galería de Arte Contemporáneo in Puebla, Mexico. November 2002.

Workshop and master class at the Escuela Nacional de Artes Plásticas in Puerto Rico.

Acquired skills

Martínez is learning about the Use of Explosives to create stainless steel sculptures. Currently exploring dynamite-based explosives (TNT and nitroglycerin), under the guidance of Italian sculptor Silvana Cenci, known in the US as the “Dynamite Lady”, visual artist who creates her sculptures on steel plates using plastic explosives. August-September 1989 and October-November 1990 in Northwood, New Hampshire, USA.

César Martínez has participated in more than 120 conferences and roundtables throughout Mexico and in cities around the world, including Los Angeles, California; Banff Centre for the Arts, Canada; Havana, Cuba; London, England; Madrid and Malaga, Spain; talking about contemporary art, his sculpture, cultural politics, political culture, sociology of art today, design and visual perception, etc.
