Installation/Performance Workshop
Spain’s Cultural Center. From March 2nd to _ April, 2006. Mexico City.
The project consists of a closed room —in complete darkness— divided in two by a wall, as shown in the picture. One of the sections is divided in 3 spaces. The wall facing the audience has several peepholes and holes through which the viewer can find out what is happening inside such rooms or divided spaces with no access. In some cases, the holes’s location forces the viewer to take on a physical posture such as that of a “voyeur”.
In the first hole section, the action of looking at oneself while looking is located. This game is allowed by the presence of a surveillance camera in front of the hole’s wall, which allows the viewer to see the projection of his/her looking at oneself and therefore be able to observe oneself observing.
In the second hole action there are two switches, one that says “Turn the TV ON” and another one that says “Turn the TV off”. When the viewer activates the first switch, a video of a TV in fire begins to be projected. When the viewer activates the second switch, a video of a firefighter’s truck is projected and the TV turn itself off. In both projections there is a fade in/out to exit the vision field.
The third hole action is conditioned with peepholes as those used in apartment doors to see who is on the other side. The viewer will see through the peepholes two small monitors that have an eye on each screen blinking every three seconds. This is how the TV’s dialectic game is established. The linguistic connection with the acronym T.V. is confirmed as an action of being looked at through a device destined for that: to be looked at.

TALK
“De los MEDIOS de comunicación masiva a los ENTEROS de comunicación sin IVA” or “Las perversas Relaciones entre Corcolito del tío Gamboín y el Big Brother de George Orwell, o es Corcolito ¿el Small Brother...?”
For this, I have suggested that Eugenio Teiselli and Juan Antonio Montiel participate virtually with a videoconference from Barcelona.
My interest, which I have already shared with the group, is to have the participation of two academics from the Department of Design Assessment from the Arts and Science Division for Design at the Autonomous Metropolitan University in Mexico City. My direct boss, M. A. V. Paloma Ibañez is very interested in getting to know Ángeles Albert to take into account a future academic exchange between Mexico and Spain.
The exhibit’s presentation text will be written by Juan Antonio Montiel.

In the first peephole section the action of looking at oneself while observing is introduced. The game is allowed by a surveillance video camera placed in front of the peepholes’ wall that allows the viewer to be ‘projected’ as looking at oneself. Therefore, the viewer can observe himself/herself while observing.
- Telera is a kind of bread found in Mexico. This word is also used to refer to the TV.
- La TV que te ve.
